Donald Trump delivers 'presidential' victory speech, praising bitter rival Ted Cruz and turning fire on Hillary Clinton
Donald Trump delivered a "presidential" victory speech on Tuesday night after crushing Ted Cruz in Indiana, and claiming the Republican nomination for the presidency.

Hours after attacking Mr Cruz and his father in an extraordinary rant, Mr Trump praised Mr Cruz as "tough, smart" and "one hell of a competitor".

"We're going to win in November, and we're going to win big, and it's going to be America first," he promised.

His delivery was almost unrecognisable from the aggressive, often very personal, attacks he has delivered consistently and unrelentingly since entering the presidential race 11 months ago.
His focus switched from his rivals within the Republican party to a now likely showdown with Hillary Clinton in November's presidential election.

"We're going after Hillary Clinton," he said to cheers at his New York Trump Tower HQ.
"Hillary Clinton, elle ne sera pas un grand président, elle ne sera pas un bon président. Elle sera un mauvais président. Elle ne comprend pas le commerce. Son mari a signé, peut-être, dans l'histoire du monde, le pire accord commercial jamais fait. Il s'appelle Nafta "
“Hillary Clinton, she will not be a great president, she will not be a good president. She will be a poor president. She does not understand trade. Her husband signed, perhaps, in the history of the world, the single worst trade deal ever done. It’s called Nafta.”
“I’ve witnessed what it’s done really firsthand, and it has been indeed carnage.”
"Nous allons ramener nos emplois et nous allons garder nos emplois. On ne va pas laisser les entreprises partir "
“We’re going to bring back our jobs and we’re going to keep our jobs. We’re not going to let companies leave.”
In an attempt to unite the Republican party after months of bitter, unprecedented infighting, Mr Trump attempted to be gracious towards Mr Cruz.
"I’ve competed all my life. All my life I’ve been in competitions, different competitions... and I have to tell you that I have met some of the most incredible competitors right here in the Republican party," he said.
"Ted Cruz, I don’t know if he likes me or doesn’t like me. But he is one hell of a competitor. He is a tough, smart, guy. And he has got an amazing future. I want to congratulate Ted. I know how tough it is. It’s tough. I understand how Ted feels and Heidi, and their whole beautiful family. I want to just say though, one tough competitor."

Hours earlier, Mr Trump rehashed unsubstantiated claims that Mr Cruz's father had links to President John F. Kennedy's assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.
“He was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald’s being, you know, shot. I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous," Mr Trump said.
“What is this, right prior to his being shot, and nobody even brings it up. They don’t even talk about that.
“I mean what was he doing, what was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before the death? Before the shooting? It’s horrible.”
In another boost to Mr Trump on Tuesday, the first poll emerged showing him leading Hillary Clinton in a hypothetical general election contest between the two.
The Rasmussen poll had Mr Trump on 41 per cent to Mrs Clinton’s 39 per cent. An average of all polls taken so far still had Mrs Clinton with a seven-point lead.
